ABOUT KANNUR DISTRICT

Kannur, earlier known as Cannanore, is one of the northern districts of Kerala. It is bordered by Western Ghats in the east, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts in the south, Lakshadweep sea in the west and Kasargod district in the north.

Kannur district is bounded by a wealth of natural beauty. The district itself, which shares much of this natural splendor, has been a key contributor to the cultural, religious, political and industrial heritage of the state. In addition Kannur enjoys the credit of having been the cradle of many a colorful folk art and folk music of Kerala.

PLACES TO VISIT

Payyambalam Beach - This long and clean beach of Kannur town is only 1 Km from our center.This beach is famous for its flat laterite cliff that jut in to the sea. The well laid gardens and the massive landscaped sculpture of Mother and child makes it extremely captive.

St: Angelo Fort - (2 Kms)
This seafront laterite fort was constructed in 1505 AD by the first Portuguese victory, Don Francisco De Almeda, with the consent from the ruling king. After changing hands from Portuguese to the Dutch and then to the English the fort became one of the important military canters of British in Malabar. The fort which is under the archeological survey of India, offers a fascinating view of Mappilla bay fishing harbour.

Kizhunna Beach - 10 Kms
This beautiful stretch of sand is one of the most secluded beaches in Kerala.

Meenkunnu Beach - (11 Kms)
This beautiful un-crowded beach is a tourist’s paradise with golden sand and surf.

Parassinikkadavu - (18 Kms)
This place is famous for Sree Muthappan Temple, which stands on the banks of Valapattanam River. This temple is famous for the Muthappan Theyyam performed every morning and evening. Houseboat cruise is also available in the river just in front of the temple.

Muzhappilangad beach - 12 kms
Black rocks protect this long clean beach from the currents of the deep, making its shallow waters a swimmers paradise. Perhaps this is Kerala’s only drive in beach where you can drive the entire length of 4 Kms.

Malayalam Kala Grama - 25 Kms
This renowned center for art and culture at New Mahi conducts courses in painting sculpture music dance and pottery.

Aaralam Wild Life Sanctuary
Elephants, Sloth bears, Sambars, Mouse, Dear etc can be found in the 55 Sq Kms of the sanctuary.

Besides these places there are so many interesting places near by like Pazhashi Dam, TrichambaramTemple, Raja Rajeshwari Temple, Dharmadam Islands, etc.
